Results & Reports:

Wandsworth A vs. Capital Nuns A: 43 - 51 (by Laura Mc)
Tabs, Sophie S, Laura Mc, Sophie S, Jen, Keri, Laura S, Leanne
POM: Laura Smallwood
PP: Tabs

Facing into a new look and very tall capital nuns team we came out hoping to get our second win of the season. The first quarter saw some good play, as did the second and although we sometimes struggled in the centre third to bring the ball down the court, at half time we were only down by 23-24
With some changes from capital nuns they came out fighting in the third and put pressure on every ball down the court. Tabs and Soph were on shooting form but with some converted turnovers for nuns we came out of the third 32-36 down. Still chance to come back into the game.
The last quarter nuns picked up the pace. Even with some stella defending from leanne, smalls and keri they managed to capitalise on some of our mistakes and ran away with it a little. A lot of learnings and positives to take from the match and im sure we'll get them next time.

Wandsworth B vs. Pleiades B: 63-38 (by Liv)
Dani, Liv, Catt, Zoe, Georgie, Ten, Kiran, Emma
POM: Dani
PP: Georgie/Catt/Ten

Q1 15-9
Wandsworth came onto the first quarter strong, converting the first couple of Pleiades centres. We managed to quickly read the play of Pleiades shooters and worked brilliantly in the defensive half putting into practice some of the zoning techniques we had learnt in training.

Q2 30-17
Pleiades came back onto the court flighting however we held onto our strong lead. Georgie’s fantastic feeds into the shooting circle helped us to increase lead and the shooting was excellent (Ten and Emma). Despite the gleaming sun we worked well as a team across court and were vocal throughout

Q3 47-28
Pleiades switched up there attacking players meaning that Dani and Liv needed to rethink their defensive strategy. After a weak start to the quarter we managed to read play and Dani picked up some fantastic intersections outside the D. In the attacking half Shooting was very consistent (Kiran and Ten) and Zoe also picked up some great interceptions in the centre third helping us to increase our lead.

Q4 63-38
We began to lag a little in this quarter- fitness levels started to show but we managed to find that extra spurt of energy and ended the game with a great score. With energy levels falling slightly, we worked well as a team to help each other out and worked around the D with Catt always being there as a reset option.

It was a fantastic game and an excellent Win! We all have the winning bug now so let’s hope for more wins to come!

Wandsworth C vs. Capital Nuns B: 32-28 (by Anna W)
Anna W, Faye, Harri, Max, Anneka, Bex, Andy, Anna
POM: Anna
PP: Faye

We started the game knowing it was going to be a tough and physical so made sure our warm up was what we practised at training and were in the zone from the moment we stepped on court. We made their first goal tricky – getting arms up and three tips before Capital nuns B managed to score. The first quarter was neck and neck 6-6.

The second quarter our aim was to keep possession and convert all our centres. Anneka, Max and Becky bringing the ball down court into Andy and Anna putting up some great shots and going for every rebound. We were 5 goals up but Capital Nuns managed to catch up. 15-14 half time.

We needed to pull away in this quarter but the errors began to creep in. Capital Nuns mixed up their team and we very physical. Faye and Harri offered good resets and back up down the court but Capital Nun were zoning and managing to get some tips turning the ball over. Capital Nuns shooting in this quarter was spot on but Anna and Faye both had good leans blocking out the shooter on the third second and getting up for the rebounds. Capital Nuns took the lead 26 -22.

In team talk we got refocused – Harri telling the team to keep possession and calm down when we turn the ball over. We got first centre and converted the ball with a great shot from Anna. Harri, Anneka and Faye were setting up the diamond well forcing Capital Nuns to throw loopy balls into GS which kept going out of court. It was neck and neck at this point. Defence were getting some good tips, centre court working the ball well into Andy and Anna. We fought hard for every ball and managed to take the lead! All in all a great win which was thoroughly deserved!

Thank you Andy and Anna for playing with us! Amazing shooting!

Wandsworth D vs. United: 28-40 (by Erin)
Dami, Erin, Lauren, Fi, Bridget, Chloe, Fran, Maddy, Becky
POM: Fi
PP: Lauren

The D’s once again proved that consistency really is our thing, with a steady second place finish for the third week in a row.

United were a strong team, with a lot of experienced players. We started the game well with some steady play and finished the first quarter just three behind. This continued into the second quarter, as we got plenty of turnovers all over the court. We struggled slightly around the circle but were still very much in the game at half time, only 2 behind.

Unfortunately we lost this game right from the whistle in the third quarter. United scored 9 in a row, so it really was an uphill struggle from there. Their best player moved into Centre, and very tall for a centre court player, she was something we’re not used to in that area of the court. Dami also had to go off injured after taking a fall on her thumb (hope you’re doing ok Dami!)

With 9 players available we were able to try out lots of combinations and rest some tired legs. Effort from everyone was fantastic til the very end and we fought hard til the final whistle, only losing the last quarter by 1. Unfortunately it was too little too late and the match finished 40-28.

Shout out to Lauren (PP) and Fi (POM). Very well deserved for tips all over the shop!

We’re confident we can beat United next time, but there’s plenty to work on- in particular our play in and around the attacking circle, and how we react to getting turnover (ie not panicking!). On to next week in search of our first win- as they say, fourth time’s a charm!

Wandsworth E vs. Omega B: 25-39 (by)
Helen, Leanne, Tess, Evie, Liv, Emma, Selina, Emma, Steph
POM: Helen
PP: Helen

The E’s got off to a strong start against Omega Bs on Saturday morning, leading 5-2 at the start of Q1. However, Omega put up a good fight and ended up winning the quarter 12-7.

With only 7 players, no changes were made for Q2. Helen and Leanne made some great tips in defense and our game started to flow through the centre court. Omega had upped their aggression and our heads started to go down a little, resulting in us losing the quarter and the score being 21-14.

After a great pep talk from Steph, we raised our game in Q3 and converted the oppositions first few centre passes , looking much stronger than we did in Q2. We had some great periods of play throughout the court but unfortunately, Omega won the quarter by 1 goal. Score at the end of Q3 was 28-20.

We all fought hard in the last quarter but sadly the final score was 39-25 to Omega. Lots of positives to take from the match but also lots of things to work on. Well played all! x
