Wandsworth B vs Highlanders: 25-35 (by Ellie)
Dani, Catt, Holly, Nicki, Ellie, Emma, Kiran, Anna
It was a blustery day, when the Bs took to the court on Saturday. Having all been a bit disappointed with our performance in training that week, we went out with a point to prove. We can safely say in the first quarter we fully proved it. Taking into account the wind, we kept our game short and fast. Emma and Anna worked well drawing the tall GK out of the D to provide ample space to drive into right next to the post. Plus Dani and Catt shut down every opportunity Highlanders had, meaning they only managed 4 goals in the first quarter. 11-4
For the second quarter, we kept the line up the same. Catt and Holly had an absolute stormer, bringing the ball seamlessly up the court for Ellie & Nicki to feed into the D.
Our fast and consistent play, started to get under the skin of the opposition and the physicality of the challenges begin to increase. We kept our heads and despite Ellie taking a big hit from the GD (yet managed to style it out) we continued to play our own game.
Kiran came on at half time and continued to prove she has the safest/stickiest hands in the game, despite being tested by the limbs of the GK. We did get a little lazy as the quarter progressed, and we started to let those long balls come back into our game. Unfortunately, for us Highlanders capitalised on these errors and we let them back into the game.
Going into the fourth quarter, we again started slipping back into the long ball game. However, as a team we recognised these errors and corrected our game. Catt and Dani both went hunting in the D, displaying some phenomenal coverage which foreced the Highlander shooters right out to the edge of the D to shoot. We finished the game at 25-35. Well done to the everyone, and a well deserved PP to Holly.
