Chairman's Cup: Wandsworth C vs Demonettes A (46 - 45)
Amy, Imo, Jess, Jules, Bex, Max, Anneka, Hannah, Faye, Harri
Wandsworth 10 goal handicap
Having previously lost to Demonettes nerves were high when we arrived, we knew this was going to be a tough game, but we were in positive spirits and hungry for a win! We knew we couldn't let our 10 goal head start go to our heads.
The first quarter started off very messy, silly faults from both team all down the court threw a lot of balls away. The very tall defence and forced overheads into the shooting circle made it difficult for the shooters to get the ball. It took us most of the quarter to get settled down and start playing our own game. Q1 (16 - 13)
The second quarter started with a bang with Imo getting a caution for very little but there was obviously a feisty competition between her and the GK. We started to settle down slightly into the game and put more pressure on in the defensive circle. The supporters shouting encouragement from the sidelines really threw the oppositions shooters and spurred the team on. With some flying intercepts from Max throughout the quarter we just managed to cling onto the lead. Q2 (23 - 22)
Starting of goal for goal it looked like it was going to be a hard fought quarter to maintain the lead but we managed to claw our way ahead. With some great interceptions from Annika and Max and Jules impressive energy bringing the ball down the court this was out best quarter so far! Q3 (35 - 31)
We could tell the opposition were getting tired so using this to our advantage we put some fresh legs on the court. This was going to be a nail biting finale to the game. Demonettes came back fighting and slowly started to catch up with our slight lead, we just needed to keep possession! With just two minuets to go on the clock and only one goal behind it was a very close fought match. Could we hold onto our lead? With some determination and final push from all the team we managed to cling on for the win!! We were through to the Semi finals of the CUP! Q4 (46 - 45)
