WNC E -v- Old Blues - 45-22

A disappointing result but solid effort all round this week. Due to illness we already knew we would be down to 6 players, but had to play the first quarter with 5 due to our GS unexpectedly running late. This put us on the back foot of which we were unable to recover from.
The second & third quarters started strong and we played much better, steadied ourselves and pulling a few goals back. Steph was an absolute machine stepping in at C and playing a big part at working the ball through centre court with the support of Kerry, Gayle and Alice. Defence was tough without a WD but Erin and Alice took some good intercepts and put pressure on their circle. Back line passes were tough but Kerry & Gayle supported well coming forward fast to help work the ball up court. All adjusting well to the change in strategy to cover the missing WD.

Old Blues pulled away in the final quarter and sadly we missed getting a point by just one goal. We need to continue to work on driving towards the ball and in to space, rather than calling for an overhead pass. We should also not be afraid to pass back, rather than playing risky loopy balls, in order retain possession.

Gayle was awarded a well deserved POM – great to have her back!
With a full strength team we would be confident we could give Old Blues a tough game next time round, so we look forward to the rematch.
