WNC E vs HSBC - 29-31 (by Kirsty):

The Es put in a sterling effort on Saturday against HSBC, but were sadly pipped to the post as they went down 29-31. The reaction from the team at the end of the match showed how much the girls had put into the game; there's been no greater disappointment since Zayn left One Direction.

In the first quarter, the teams were quite evenly matched with a score line of 4-6 as HSBC just edged ahead - Erin demonstrating a ballet-esque poise in defending, Sally effectively shutting down her player, and Daisy offering the shooters excellent options on the circle.

In the second quarter, the Es surged ahead with multiple turnovers: Zoe effortlessly controlling play up the court, great movement by Fran and Kirsty into the circle, and Vicky shooting sensationally.

The third quarter brought significant changes to team positions for HSBC, revitalising their charge against the Es particularly in the first half of the quarter. Some great interceptions by Laura, however, contributed to a mini-revival, giving the Es a very slim lead before the start of the last quarter. Unfortunately, the new HSBC set-up managed to take the advantage as they finished stronger, taking the quarter and the game.
As with One Direction, the show must go on and we must take comfort in the knowledge that the new line-up can still give the crowds outstanding performances. The Es are up for the challenge. Roll on the rest of the season...
