POM: Keri
PP: Claire

So our match was the dreaded 2pm game, it was cold and wet, but we were determined to win against Karisma after losing by two right back at the start of the season.

The first quarter was a bit slow off the mark, settling in to the game and getting used to the pace of the game. We had some good speed through court by Ellie and Cara to give all the opportunities to the shooters as well as voices off court to keep the spirits high (shout out to the girls who stayed behind after their match to watch) leaving the score 11-9 to us.

The second quarter we picked up the pace, with Tara coming on and getting a whole bunch of intercepts and lose balls. Claire and Kerri pressured the circle and made them lose their heads and miss most of their goals (or not even get a chance on some, sorrynotsorry). Rach made some great drives to make the pass and the shot super easy, allowing us to step up and score 14 goals making it 23-16 (and the quarter score 14-5).

The third quarter we mixed it up again, Cara slid along from wing to centre and got what seemed like every other ball at one point and feeding in strong balls to the circle. Defensively we put the pressure on and caused a number of lose balls, but seemed to slow the pace and go a bit flat mentally. We quietly cracked on, held our own (albeit with a few launched balls, wouldn’t be us without them) and left the score with us still leading 33-26.

The final quarter we had a bit of a wobbly, letting them score a fair number of goals on the trot with not much of an answer from us. Claire stormed it in defence, arms everywhere and Keri giving good calls and pressure over every ball which picked our heads up and allowed us to get back to scoring goals. Bex got the shots up whilst giving the defence a run for their money and standing strong against their knees and elbows to keep us well in the game.

Ultimately, the umpiring was debatable at best and we were very quiet compared to our screamer of a match last week (literally and metaphorically) but we managed to bank the win with solid play, finishing the match 40-36.
Onwards and upwards team!
