On Saturday we ventured to the unfamiliar territory of Tulse Hill. We knew (because Kerri told us) it was going to a be tough game against an experienced and physical team.
Omega asserted themselves very early on. We managed to slow them down and put on a strong defensive pressure down the whole court. K.Haines and Claire were doing a serious job in the circle which meant their attack were taking 3 times as long as us to convert to goal.
Tabs and Rach were on form very early on, Rach sinking that long shot she loves, and Tabs bossing the circle and finding brilliant space under the post!
Second quarter was strong again. Laura S came on as WD and started to rattle to WA and bought the ball down the court we’ll. nice
(Here’s where I’ll credit Laura McCambridge who won players player. Laura played WA the whole game - very strong on centre passes, she controlled the tempo of the game in attack as well as some excellent feeds into the circle. Okay, I’m done bumming Laura now, onto the rest of the report).
Third quarter Bex came on as GS after her jolly in Sri Lanka for the past few weeks and sank some serious shots. Their defence upped their game and we struggled to get the ball in to the shooters for a solid chunk of the quarter. They led by 10 at going into the fourth.
Last quarter felt like a bloody Coach Carter finale! Going in 10 down, we stepped. the. fuck. up. We rattled them, Kerri was tighter than a bloody wetsuit on her GA and they couldn’t get the ball into the circle for love nor money.
We were lucky we didn’t have a Zinedine Zidane situation on our hands after Rach was given a warning by the umpire. I was down the other end of the court so not sure what it was for, but I enjoyed it.
Fresh off her smashing performance on Wednesday, Holly was like a pelican swooping up all those loose balls #mine #mine. Cara, aka the Artful Dodger came back on in the last quarter as C, she really upped the tempo and was quick to turn on the speed when we got a fast break.
I know people don’t really write about themselves in these, but I got a few flies in the final quarter just so everyone knows. (Chairman's note: Elka was awesome)
We lost, but we were all buzzing after smashing the final quarter which we won 11-3!!! They are second in the league so it just shows what we’re capable of. Skies the limit lads.
Shout out to D(el boy) on scoring, the bring a boyfriend bench, and especially Claire for coming to coach.
Just like in Coach Carter, we lost by 2. However, we’ve all got college educations already so that’s something, I guess.
