As vs Downs

The As came up against a tough and very tall Downs team for the first match of the season.

First quarter - it took both teams a couple of minutes to settle into the match and Downs took the early lead, ending the quarter up by 11 - 6. Second quarter - we brought in back - great defensive pressure all the way down the court and the line defence off centre passes worked well. We turned over loads and Downs began to tire. Half time: 20 - 20.

They mixed things up in the third quarter and brought on fresh legs. Sophie made her WNC debut at C. We got some tough calls from the umpire in the defensive circle and ended the Q down by 6.

Final quarter - we were very much still in the game - Tabs and Livvi battled hard against two tall and very physical circle defenders. We were patient with our build up play, resetting when needed and playing safe balls into the shooters. We got it back to within one a couple of times, but unfortunately just couldn't close that gap.

All in all - a load of positives to take away... Everyone played amazingly for the first match of the season, new combos at both ends of the court gelled really well and everyone fought 100% to the end against one of the toughest teams we are likely to come up against this year.
