Q1- The match started pretty evenly as both teams settled into play. Laura and Jen in mid court were patient in working the ball around the circle before feeding into Emma who played a great holding game at GS. Livvi had to come off for a blood stoppage, so Tara jumped in to GA and slotted some sweet shots as Livvi tried and failed to bandage herself up. A solid defence push from Soph at WD and Leanne and Smalls in the circle at the end of quarter saw us gain some vital intercepts and convert to end the first quarter with a marginal lead. 17-15

Q2- We let Whyteleafe back in the game during the second quarter; their GS really had her eye in and wasn’t missing wherever she was in the circle and their GA really came into the match as a key game player. After letting the opposition level back up, we made sure we kept in reaching distance and the quarter consisted of both teams scoring off their centre passes. We ended the quarter all evens. 28-28

Q3- The third quarter was where we really pulled away and cemented our lead. We started the first quarter with a turnover and followed with 5 unanswered goals. Emma held brilliantly at the top of the circle to allow some strong base lines from Livvi which Jen and Laura were quick to spot. Tara dropped back to add great pressure on the top of Whyteleafe’s circle, which forced lots of poor passes which Smalls and Leanne picked up. We pulled ahead to end the quarter 44-36.

Q4- After a great final pep talk from Captain Laura we went into final quarter all guns blazing and had a cracking quarter. Defence were getting tips and intercepts all over the shop (resulting in Leanne being named Players’ Player and Smallwood being named POM) which attack brought down steadily and surely into circle. We started playing with great confidence, sinking long bomb shots and Soph and Laura were firing great feeds into the circle. We were relentless in putting on the pressure and we able to push ahead, winning the final quarter 13-7 and thus the game. 57-42

Lovely match in the sunshine, which saw us steadily build on our play throughout and keep patient with very few unforced errors! Well done squad! And thanks to Leanne’s Yousef for being our pro photographer for the day ?
