We traveled to the warren for this second meeting of Wandsworth and Phoenix in the Met league. The last time we met in Shirley we beat them well, but expected a tough physical match from these experienced netballers.

Wandsworth came out strong in the first quarter, Stef and Nat’s shooting was on point which allowed us to convert the majority of our centre passes. Our defence was also fierce, using the box defence we worked on in training . First quarter finished 18-7.

Both teams kept the same line out for the second Q, Play up through the the centre court was slick, Vix and Zoe worked well to get the ball up out of the defence when Wandsworth turned over Phoenix attack. Half time 36-14.

After a few rotations in the shooting circle and centre court, play resumed. Phoenix started to break our box defence by marking man on, their experienced shooters didn't miss a shot. We remained consistent this quarter, but the phoenix fightback was on, 54-30.

Wandsworth came out strong in the final quarter. Julia kept our heads in the game with an inspiring team talk, a target of 70 goals, and a no laughing rule….. we achieved only one of those two requests. Defence changed strategy, Harri kept the GA at bay, making it difficult for Phoenix to penetrate their attacking circle. In a very enjoyable game Wandsworth came away winners, 70-40.
