It is with heavy heart that I share with you all the devastating news that the B-dream-streak came to an end this weekend as we suffered a 44-33 loss against HS B. Having won ten games on the trot, the pressure for us to keep winning wasn’t going unnoticed by us all. Alas, sadly, we just weren’t able to pull this one out of the bag.

HS B got off to a strong start in the first quarter, overturning a couple of our centre passes early on with some tight defence and consistent shooting. Jules and Zoe moved the ball nicely down the court while Clare and Harri kept tight on their players in defence. For some reason, our usual chemistry as a team seemed to be missing and we weren’t really ‘into’ the game by the end of the first quarter, where we left the court 14-6 down.

We came back stronger going into the second quarter, with some awesome interceptions happening up and down the court. Andy made some great moves around the D to secure a good shooting position while it was nice to welcome Georgie back to the court in as WD, putting great pressure on her nippy WA. Despite all of the hard work up and down the court, something just wasn’t clicking with us all as a team and our heads* were all down as we left the court at half time.

Moving into the third quarter, Anna and Kiran really got their mojo in the third quarter and displayed some of that B-team magic that we love so much, enabling us to close in on the score at points, but sadly HS B always just seemed one step ahead of us and they maintained their lead of five goals going into the final quarter.

Despite some good defence, mid-court play and attack in the final quarter, we weren’t able to pull back against HS B as their GS continued her impressive ability to virtually not miss the goal. So it was not meant to be for us on this occasion, but we left the court with plenty of ideas about what we need to work on and how we can definitely get them next time!

We were unlucky this time, but never fear, the B team will return to their usual B-mazing selves before you can say, ‘Happy Birthday Jules!’

SIDENOTE: Unusually for Clare**, she made some insanely good interceptions throughout the game, rightfully earning her the umpire’s Player of the Match for something like the seventh or eighth time? We all seriously love playing with such a legend GK. [Ok my girl crushing is now over.]

*Ok mostly just my head, I was a mega Negative Nancy, soz gals.

**Are you crazy have you seen Clare she’s like the octopus on Blue Planet tonight; stealthy, comes out of nowhere and always manages to deceive her opposition.
