Hot bottles and rugs were needed for those watching on the sides, however the sub zero temperatures did not stop the C team smashing their win against Cricket As early on Saturday.

We had a strong start, with our defence putting instant pressure on their centre pass and resulting in a turnover. From then on, we built on our lead with quick, smart play from the attack, working the ball round to Imo who was sinking shots galore.

In the second quarter, we had a little slip where we let the opponents get a flurry of goals, but Max and her super arms at WD was denying all the passes round the circle, which Lisa and Dani cleaned up with ease. Becky and Anneka as WA and C were working the ball beautifully down the court while Maddie as GA was sneaking in the most glorious balls to Imo, who was not missing, or if she did, the rebound was hers!!

At half time, we saw Marelise come on as WA to add some new speed and energy into the attack- a performance which saw her deservedly receive POM. Becky moved to Centre and added even more strength defensively. Fi also came into defence and was putting incredible pressure on the shooter and forced a lot of bad passes which Lisa was there to snatch.

We went into the final quarter with a marginal lead, however, that final quarter saw our finest play yet. Dani kept her cool against a very aggressive GA and disrupted their play in and out of the circle. Maddie as WA continued to feed brilliantly into Imo. Anneka had moved into the circle and was sinking shot after shot, as well as sneaky passes and movement around the circle.

Overall, it was such a pleasure to watch the team play this match. Everyone had a stormer and played with confidence and control, resulting in a 53-29 win, the last quarter score being 18-4 on its own. Big congrats to Marelise for POM and Imo, for her super sharp shooting with won her Player’s Player! Well done Cs!
