Arriving at HSBC we knew that it was going to be a tough game, having only taken the win in the final quarter in our previous meeting with them.

After finding out that we were avoiding the rain and playing inside we went in to warm up. Unfortunately during the warm up Marelise sustained a cricked neck and had to rest.

Stepping onto the court in the first quarter we went out strong and the game was close, nearly goal for goal. It was hard work and we were somewhat surprised with how hard HSBC came out the blocks. During the second quarter we unfortunately lost the ball to numerous unforced errors which were capitalised on by our opposition. Leading into Q3 we were 8 goals behind and fought for every ball, we managed some fab interceptions but still remained slightly behind our opposition going into the fourth and final quarter. Unfortunately in this quarter we saw Wandsworth playing against 9 opposition, the umpires (who were both HSBC) decided that they didn’t like the prospect of their team losing the game in the final quarter so decided to make some somewhat suspicious calls in the final quarter. We lost the final quarter with some rather frustrated WNC girls and some unusual comments from HSBC umpires.

In summary this was a game where as a team we played well and had some moments off exceptional play but the odds (and the umpires) were against us.

Shout out to Max who got POM for providing constant work for her WA and intercepting the ball on numerous occasions.
