Wandsworth C vs Wandsworth D: 53 - 34 (by Max)

Going into the match on Wednesday evening we knew we had to go out all guns blazing because the Ds weren’t going to leave anything on court and they had a 10 goal lead to start with.

In the first quarter we saw Becky make some fantastic intercepts and feed some lovely balls along with Jules into Mel and Imo, who were on fire with the shooting. They were working extremely well in the D together and Mel was doing some cheeky fake dodges in order to try and loose the circle defence, which worked well. The girls kept popping the balls up and in and the score at the end of the first quarter was 16-13 to us.

Going into the second quarter we knew we had to hold the lead and continue to play our own game. We saw Claire having a team chat with the Ds and they came out fighting and managed to make us flustered on court and therefore we made some silly mistakes due to their strong zone and the fact that Hannah in the Ds didn’t miss a single shot! This quarter didn’t go our way and after some erratic play by us we finished 26-25 to us at half time.

There was now only 1 goal in it and at half time Harri gave a great team talk and reminded us that we needed to play smart and make short, sharp passes and ensure we are defending the space whilst attempting to make intercepts at the same time. This quarter was our strongest of the game due to Faye and Hannah making some smashing intercepts in our defensive circle and Amy shooting from anywhere in the cirlce! At the end of the third quarter it was 40-29 to us.

In the final quarter we needed to retain our lead and play our own game. This quarter saw Anneka and Harri turning over some great balls which were being converted nicely. Therefore the match finished with us winning 53-34.

We all want to shout out to the Ds for such a lovely match, we all really enjoyed it and are looking forward to playing you again soon. Shout out to Hannah from the Ds who received our POM, Amy from the Cs for our PP and Anneka POM.
