We went into the game knowing this would be a tough match. The first half of the game was a little unsteady as we found we were crowding into the same spaces and panicking a little when we were getting turnovers. This meant we finished the first half down at 22-12 but knew that we were not playing our best Netball and that we really could give this team a run for their money. So went back out into the second half with renewed confidence and decided we needed to talk to each other more around court to help with spacing and that we should just put our shots up to help our conversions.
Q3 saw Gayle in GK and Lauren in GD work really well together and put loads of pressure on Chequers D - so much so they only scored 4 goals that q! Our shooters Becky and Izzy got their eyes in and were sinking their shoots meaning we finished the q 26-21 - we were coming back!!
Going into the final Q we knew we had the fitness to work hard all the way to the end and the opposition were starting to get tired (they asked if we were the B team - ????go D’s!). Our mid court of Anna, Fran and Syan were able to capitalise on Chequers tiredness and worked hard to get the ball down the court, and making sure they were at the top of the D to get those feeds in. Both circles continued to work hard but at the final whistle we finished 33-30 - if only we had a couple of minutes more! It was a great (winning!) second half performance and we know we can get them next time for sure!!
