WNC E vs Selsdon - 38-29 (by Harriet S)

So although the Es played Selsdon last week in Met, we knew that it would be a different team they fielded this week at Croyden so we couldn't be comfortable and unfortunately they pulled away in the final quarter and took the game 38-29 which was perhaps not a true reflection of the game as a whole.

With a relatively uncertain start from us, Selsdon made a strong start in the first 5 minutes with a very confident attacking circle. However once we settled into the game, with Kim Smith proving her versatility in GA we finished the first quarter on 9-7 knowing we needed to defend a bit harder going into the 2nd quarter.

Having not made enough of an impact in the 2nd quarter inspite of some very strong centre court play by Anna and Daisy and Mei, we knew we were up against it in the 3rd quarter, going into it 9 goals down. But this was our quarter, with everyone working well together and Erin showing us her shooting skills. The defending half were bringing the ball down well and there was some very sharp and precise play into the circle.

Unfortunately despite having only a 4 goal difference going into the final quarter we seemed to lose our focus and Selsdon took the game by 9 goals, having brought on their secret weapon shooter.

Perhaps what we've learnt from this game is a need for consistency in our shooting circle and some more ferocious defending. Well done to Anna for winning player of the match.
