Circling the edge of the ‘D’ like fruit flies, Daisy and Kirsty helped move the ball into more advantageous positioning for shooting, with Nat always primed for taking the ripe (fruit) pickings of the rebound and follow-up shot. Like onions, the Es gradually peeled off their layers to reveal a solid core of determination to beat their opposition. As prickly as a pear, the team tentatively moved the ball down court to the new formation in the goal circle. The pressure was on to have a fruitful game.

After a nervy start in the first quarter, with the slight bitterness of a lemon, the team acknowledged they needed to pick up their game and hit their stride if they were to give a star (fruit) performance. However, the crunch of Harriet’s finger, like the sound of the first bite of an apple, meant a rapid substitution was needed for this top banana.

Dangling the carrot of victory in front of them, the Es shored up their defence with Erin and Anna both getting excellent tips to keep the ball away from the opposition’s shooters. With shooting as hot as a Naga chilli, Hannah helped the Es to pull away comfortably. Alice made some strawberry-sweet interceptions, providing support in the centre third.

Like a great fruit salad, the Es once again proved they have all the ingredients to dish up a sweet victory.
