We started the game knowing a little bit about CMO B having only played them a few weeks ago in the other league. We were confident that we could win the game having won previously, however, knew that CMO B were going to be fighting back and that we would have some good competition and gameplay for 60 minutes!

The first quarter saw us gain a strong 8 goal lead against our opposition, with both Helen and Steph getting their eye in and some great interceptions all round, ending the quarter 10-2.

After the first quarter, CMO picked up their game and gained more possession of the ball during match play, this forced Wandsworth to speed our game up which in turn resulted in lots of unforced, basic errors, particularly footwork penalties and forced loopy balls into the circle. Thanks to our 8 goal lead in the first quarter, we still finished the second quarter with a 10 goal lead at 19-9.

After a good half time talk as a team, we discussed that we needed to slow the pace down and add that extra pass in before shooting the goal, meaning ensuring the WA and C were well positioned for the shooters to work the ball in. We didn’t quite master this in the third quarter and continued to make forced errors, however with our shots on point and some great defending in the circle and great interceptions by Leanne, we managed to keep our lead and ended the quarter 29-18.

Going into the final quarter, we knew that CMO could still bring it back and we needed to really concentrate on slowing the play down and working the ball into the attacking circle while taking the extra second to land solidly before passing on the ball to eliminate footwork penalties. We managed to stay strong and pulled ahead further finishing with a strong 16 goal lead at 41-25!
